Dr. Sereana Natuman, Head of Medical Department, VCH, recently got in touch to let us know that the equipment we sent in our last crate shipment was “already unpacked and ready for use in our ward.” The four infusion pumps have made a particular impact, with one being put to use in the high dependency unit as soon as it was received. “Our other pump just had stopped working. [The new one] is so easy to operate.”
“The patient who was in need for IV fluid was a young male who came in with diabetic ketoacidosis,” Sereana explained. “The infusing pump is making a lot of difference in his management.”
Dr Natuman went on to thank MJF that the equipment we send over is brand new (rather then the frequently sent over second-hand) equipment and is of the highest quality that would be found in any Australian hospital.
“Thank you so much to the Melanie Jewson Foundation and all those who donated. You are saving lives in Vanuatu.”
It is particularly encouraging in these trying times to be reminded of the significant impact of this kind of work and to be assured that it actually does make a tangible difference.
Our next shipment will include five further infusion pumps for the Paediatrics Department along with two brand new state-of-the-art diagnostic sets used for diagnosing critical eye and ear diseases. We are also extremely pleased to be equipping the Medical Department with a world-class Automated External Defibrillator (AED), used to bring patients who have had a cardiac arrest back to life.
If you would like to help us continue equipping the Vila Central Hospital with essential supplies, please consider becoming one of our regular donors. No amount is too little.
“Thank you so much again. It is like Christmas for us.”
