In March, Vila Central Hospital took delivery of our recent crate shipment. According to VCH’s Head of Medical Department Dr. Sereana Natuman, every item in the crate has already been used at least once, from the nasal cannulas to the defibrillator.

We ascribe this kind of success to the MJF’s highly consultative approach, an aspect of our donation policy that we take very seriously. Every time a donation is made by the MJF, we make sure that the equipment or resources in question is needed by the relevant department, appropriate to the conditions in Vanuatu, can be repaired and/or maintained locally and is of a high quality. The quality thing is something we get asked about every now and then by people wishing to source second hand supplies for us to donate. In short, if an item is unacceptable for use in Australia, then it is also unacceptable for donation to Vanuatu.

$20,000 doesn’t go that far when you’re purchasing medical equipment and hospital consumables. Making sure that money is spent ethically and responsibly ensures it goes as far as it can.
