Vanuatu remains COVID free

Winter has certainly come, and with it a slew of new coronavirus cases in Victoria. For all those in the midst of the second-wave lockdown, we are thinking of you and hope you’re travelling OK.

Thankfully Vanuatu remains COVID free, although that fact is proving challenging for a large number of Ni-Vanuatu seasonal workers in regional Australia, unable to return home to their families due to the quarantine restrictions. Many of these people, working on farms across Queensland and other parts of the country, haven’t been back to their homes in 12 months, staying here to provide for their families whilst doing their bit to put food on Australian tables. We are very thankful.

Our EOFY campaign Emergency Essentials was an extraordinary success. Thanks to you – our amazing donors – we raised over $15,165, surpassing our goal by 68%. 50 emergency nurses will now have access to affordable essentials packs, and the considerable surplus will be used to help fund our next shipment of medical supplies.

Unfortunately we had to make the difficult decision to cancel our Spring Film fundraiser this year. We love partnering with The Pivotonian Cinema each Spring to bring you exceptional films and a chance to get together with other foundation supporters. Of course the safety of every one of you is very important to us, and with COVID-19 restrictions changing all the time, we felt that cancelling was the most appropriate course of action. Although disappointed, we look forward to Spring Film 2021 and seeing all your lovely faces in the flesh!

We are thinking of you all in these remarkable and uncertain times. Thank you for your continued support, even as times get tougher and the world gets stranger. You are essential to us being able to do what we do.
