Over 400 of you came out at the beginning of November to our Open Gardens Open Hearts fundraising event. The day was a spectacular success, with four open gardens raising $12,536 for the people of Vanuatu.
Most of the costs for the day were donated including the coffee, the tea, the cream, the jam, the cups and saucers, the milk, the scones, and for the pop-up market: the bikkies, the flowers, the quilts, the jams, the Quincey, and the in-kind labour. There was a total of 50 volunteers ranging from mid 20s to over 80 years in some way or the other over the whole period.
Those volunteering at the Devonshire Tea stand were run off their feet, churning through 450 scones, 6kg of jam, 7.5 litres of cream and 2kg of ground coffee! Thank you to those generous souls who worked so hard in the lead-up, including the organising team and the couples who opened their gardens to us all, as well as everyone who volunteered on the day.
And let’s not forget each and every one of you who attended, wandered through the gardens, bought some plants and ate a scone or two!
It was a wonderful display of community — one community coming together to help out another.
Together we are helping to make a difference to those in need.
Tankyu tumas!
