Emergency Essentials: exceptional response

Raising a staggering $15,165, our end-of-financial-year campaign exceeded its target by 68%.

The response to our end-of-financial-year campaign blew our target out of the water, raising a staggering $15,165. Donations ranged from specific items to sizeable individual donations, each bringing us that bit closer to making the project a reality.

The aim of the Emergency Essentials project is to equip every local emergency nurse with a critical Nursing Pack, which includes fundamental equipment used to measure patients ‘vital signs’, indicators of how likely a patient is to die imminently. These packs have never before existed in the VCH Emergency Department. With the outstanding support of Leigh Elton, an Australian nurse who has been volunteering at VCH, local emergency nursing staff will be trained in their use, leading to a sophisticated triaging system that will prevents unnecessary deaths.

We are stocking each pack with brand new equipment, as per our donation guidelines. Each pack consists of a stethoscope for assessing heart and lungs, thermometer for measuring temperature, pupil torch, pulse oximeter for assessing lung oxygenation and a carry pouch. These packs will help streamline the care of deteriorating patients and allow for timely life-saving treatment.

It was humbling and very exciting to see just how well supported this campaign was. Thank you once again to every single person who donated. You are making a difference to those in need.
