Medical Department

Since the inception of the MJF we have collaborated with the Medical Department to provide essential consumables required to save lives everyday. We collaborate with the department annually to send a large crate over every year containing crucial medical equipment.

In the past, we have donated infusion pumps, which are critical in being able to provide exact rates of medication and fluid delivery intravenously. This is the absolute standard of care in developed nations, such as Australia. However, in Vanuatu, prior to our donation, doctors and nurses had no way of accurately determining this.

We have also donated blood pressure pumps, intravenous giving sets, stethoscopes and others.

Paediatrics Department

Since the inception of the MJF we have collaborated with the Paediatrics Department to provide essential consumables required to save children’s lives everyday. We collaborate with the department annually to send a large crate over every year containing crucial medical equipment.

In the past, we have donated an electrocardiography (ECG) machine, a critical tool used to assess a patient’s heart, and is essential for the diagnosis of congenital heart disease in children. We have also provided stethoscopes, breathing masks, and oxygen delivery prongs.

Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department

In 2017 we donated two brand-new cardiotocography (CTG) machines to the O&G Department. A CTG allows clinicians to measure foetal wellbeing during pregnancy. This is essential to determine if the baby is at imminent risk of dying and allows for timely treatment.

Surgical Department

In 2014 we provided a diathermy machine for use by the Surgical Department. A diathermy machine is used in surgery to control and prevent bleeding, and is vital for successful surgical intervention.

Physiotherapy Department

The MJF has also been able to provide the physiotherapy team at Vila Central Hospital, including crutches, braces, bandages and exercise equipment.

Consumables

Prior to focusing on individual departments, the MJF worked with the Central Medical Supplies team to provide needed consumables, such as needles, syringes and hand sanitiser.
